Port Charlotte is a census-designated area located in Charlotte County and was listed as one of the 10 best places to retire in 2012. Originally home to the paleo-Indians, Port Charlotte today is home to more than 50,000 people, the spring training for the Tampa Bay Rays and centrally located to multiple Major League Baseball teams. There are also notable golf courses in the area. Fishing and boating are very popular pastimes.
