Cape Coral was founded in the 1960s by land speculators who saw abundant sunshine and nearly endless opportunities for waterfront living. As the 3rd largest city geographically in the state of Florida, Cape Coral boasts more than 189,000 residents. This is the largest city between Tampa and Miami and has more miles of canals than any other city in the world. There is a large active German community that holds an annual Christmas Market and Octoberfest. There is also a beach and fishing pier along the Caloosahatchee River and a water park. Below are short descriptions of residential neighborhoods within the city.
